DPVA Panel Discussion: The Life and Legacy of Barbara Johns and Moton School Walkout

February 20, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

The Democratic Party of Virginia is honoring the legacy of Barbara Johns, a brave high school student who in 1954 organized a protest against conditions at the segregated Moton High School.

On Saturday February 20, 2016, 1:00-2:30 pm at the SunTrust Building Auditorium (4th floor, 919 East Main St, Richmond, VA 23219), DPVA will host a free panel discussion on how her courageousness can inspire us as we work to advance civil rights across the Commonwealth.

RSVP, click here.

Moderator: Senator L. Louise Lucas. The panel will feature Megan Clarke (Commonwealth Attorney from Prince Edward County), Ken Woodley (former editor of The Farmville Herald and covered the Johns’ story), Dorothy Holcomb (Chair of Moton Museum Council), Jasper L. Hendricks, III (founder of Brown Virginia), Dr. Warren Holmes (Political Science Professor, Virginia State University), and Carl Eggleston (recipient of the Moton Museum Scholarship).

In addition to the panel, DPVA will host a reception at Barrel House Restaurant, Saturday February 20, 2016, 7-9 pm, for details click here.
