Filling Vacancies

Vacant state delegate positions for the 2020 State Convention will be filled as follows:
(1) Elected State Convention alternates pledged to each presidential candidate will be elevated to state delegate and assigned to vacant state delegate positions, first within their Congressional District and then to other Congressional Districts.
(2) The remaining state delegates positions will be filled as follows.  From 12:00 PM on May 25 until 5 PM on May 27, persons interested in filling vacancies may submit a Delegate Filing Form available on the DPVA Website.  Applicants for these vacancies will be subject to presidential right of review.
(3) Vacant State Convention alternate positions will not be filled.
The 2020 State Delegate Pre-Filing Form is located on the DPVA Website at vademocrats.org in the Delegate Selection Section.  Scroll down the Delegate Selection Section to State Convention.  You will see the following listings:
•   2020 Call to Convention (Adopted on December 7, 2019).
•   Amendments to the 2020 Call to Convention (Adopted on May 22, 2020).
•   Delegation Vacancy Filing Form.

8th District Convention: May 16, 2020


Pursuant to the authority provided by the Democratic Party of Virginia, the Eighth Congressional District Democratic Convention will convene at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16.  State Delegates, Alternates, and Guests will be able to view the Convention opening session on the internet.


The opening session will include addresses by distinguished guests and an explanation of the voting process by which State Delegates will vote for National Convention Delegates and conduct other business.


Following the opening session, State Delegates will engage in online voting between 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16 and 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17.

The purpose of the Eighth Congressional District Convention shall be:


A. To select seven (7) National Convention Delegates, and one (1) alternate to the 2020 Democratic National Convention; and
B. To select an Elector from the Eighth Congressional District; and;
C. To vote to adopt or reject the Report of the Eighth Congressional District Democratic Committee Resolutions Committee.
Slates shall be permitted at the Eighth Congressional District Convention. All slates must be complete, using all of the delegate allocated seats and gender balanced in order to be accepted (e.g. the Biden slate should have 2 males and 2 females and 1 male alternate; the Sanders slate should have 1 male and 1 female; and the Warren slate shall have 1 female. Individuals who wish to form a slate, must notify the 8th CD Chair and State Party in writing by Monday, May 4, 2020, at 5:00 p.m.

Pursuant to the authority provided by the Virginia Democratic Party Plan (“Party Plan”), the 8th Congressional District Convention will convene:
