VAYD 2012 Convention

The 2012 VAYD Convention  opens this Friday, and the RVA2012 Convention Host Committee is pleased to announce the keynote speaker for this year’s Award’s Banquet  on Saturday, March 31st will be John “Jack” Bouvier Kennedy Schlossberg, Democratic Activist and Young Democrat. The keynote speaker is a college student at Yale University, co-founded a non-profit called “Relight New York” which purchased CFL light bulbs for low-income homes in New York City, and is the son of Edwin Schlossberg and Caroline Kennedy. You won’t want to miss his remarks, so purchase your banquet ticket today and don’t miss out on this opportunity.

The 2012 VAYD Convention is being held in Richmond, VA on the weekend of March 30 – April 1. Convention business will be held at the Doubletree Richmond Downtown Hotel (301 W. Franklin St.). The Awards Banquet will be held at Epic at Hat Factory (140 Virginia St.).

The Convention Committee has announced a number of amazing guest speakers for this year’s program, including Kaine for Senate Campaign Manager Mike Henry,  Obama 2012 Campaign Co-Chair Sai Iyer, Former U.S. Chief Technology Office Aneesh Chopra, Media Directions Founder (and Young Democrat for Life) Rich Savage, and Democratic National Committee member Frank Leone. Please also note a special service project which will be part of this year’s convention. Cinderella Dreams is a Richmond-based non-profit that collects prom dresses, jewelry, shoes, unopened makeup, evening bags, disposable cameras and other prom-related accessories to help financially challenged girls in Richmond attend their proms. VAYD has been committed to bettering Virginia through serving our communities for nearly 80 years, and you may join in giving to those in need by donating at the convention registration desk when you check in.

VAYD Convention also serves as the time when other business is attended to: approval of charters, pass resolutions, amend the VAYD Constitution, and recognize VAYDs for their outstanding service over the past year. There are some deadlines to be aware of for this year’s convention. Please also remember to get in Awards nominations for this year by submitting candidates for Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Up and Coming Club of the Year, and Club of the Year to Atima Omara-Alwala ( no later than Friday, March 30th at noon.
